Joanie Speaks at Last

OK, people, I’m here to guest blog about Greece, but these Jubilee-ers being who they are, someone on this here trip has to speak up for the CATS.

So far, Greece has been just magical! Just what you would hope: full of culture and beauty and good food and picking up immediately with old friends like it was yesterday.

But! It has also been a land of all kinds of cats! Just walking around, not as many as in Rome, but just a few, inserting themselves in the landscape (and interiors) like they own the place.

As of course, they do.

It has added a whole fun element to the trip to be on the lookout for them. Which means I have to own that I am not just an incidental cat person as I have been pretending all these years: we have met the Cat Lady, and she is us.

So now here we all are on the gorgeous patio of my lovely little crazy hotel, (theirs was all booked up by the time I decided that yes: I could join them for real) having respectively a glass of wine, a coke, some water and peanuts, and a cigar, and watching the sunset over the water. And I am realizing all that is missing is a visit from one of the local cats.

As our friend Kurt Vonnegut reminds us to recognize, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”
